The Unlimited version was later ported to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 worldwide on Septemunder its original Tekken Tag Tournament 2 name. Along with customization updates and character balances, this version includes a new ratio system (allowing players to fight with a solo character, changing the Rage system to that in Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion) and a "pair play" mode (where players team up, each controlling a single character). The game received an update on March 27, 2012, titled Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Unlimited. Like the previous entry, it builds on the game engine and roster of the latest entry in the series (in this case, Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion) and features special tag-team mechanics. While Tekken 3 might have been the series’ high point, nothing quite had the impact that its immediate predecessor did.Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is a 3D fighting game developed and released by Namco Bandai for arcades (using PS3-based Namco System 369 hardware) exclusively in Japan on September 14, 2011.Ī tag-team focused spin-off of the Tekken series, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is the successor to the 1999 game Tekken Tag Tournament, pitting most characters from the series' history (at that point in the series) in non-canonical 2-on-2 team battles. Its characters also entered the Capcom universe in Street Fighter X Tekken in 2012, and starred in four sub-par movies. Since its inception, Tekken’s main installments comprise seven main series entries, two Tag Tournaments, and a Dark Resurrection on PSP.

It was also the console’s second-best-selling fighting game, only eclipsed by its superb sequel, Tekken 3, which sold over eight million copies, a feat that also made it the fifth most popular PS1 game of all time. The demand for the full experience was undoubtedly reflected in Tekken 2’s sales: it ended up being the 15th best-selling game on the PlayStation, shipping nearly six million units. This taster limited players to choosing either Jun Kazama or Jackie Chan-a-like Lei Wulong: a clever move, as they were perhaps the most anonymous and least fascinating of the line-up, but no less fun to play with. However, many people were introduced Tekken 2 by a pair of newcomers, thanks to its almost ubiquitous appearances on Demo One discs, which were bundled with PlayStation consoles (and, occasionally, other games). Among the starting characters was Paul Phoenix, a biker with towering hair Marshall Law, Bruce Lee in all but name King, a down-on-his-luck, jaguar mask-wearing Mexican luchadore Yoshimitsu, a mechanical ninja who brought a knife to a fistfight and Jack-2, a massive but surprisingly empathetic robotic killing machine from Russia. The game’s cast was undoubtedly its strong point.
